Apple could be exploring a lower-cost desktop option in the vein of a Mac Neo. The concept imagines a Mac Mini-sized computer powered by mobile chips, offering a compact, affordable entry point into Apple’s silicon ecosystem.

The Mac Neo concept envisions a desktop machine roughly the size of an Apple TV, with fewer ports and a design leaning on a mobile-class processor. Speculation places an A-series chip like the A18 Pro (or A19 Pro in a future year) and 8 GB of RAM, delivering MacBook-like performance in a shell intended for home/office use.
Projections suggest a US price around $399, making it a cheaper option alongside the existing Mac Mini. In Europe, that could translate to roughly €450–€500. The aim would be to pair a modest base with external peripherals rather than a built-in display.

One challenge for a Mac Neo would be how it performs when connected to an external monitor. While the MacBook Neo concept assumes capable portability, a desktop Mac Neo would likely depend on a monitor for its primary visual output. Using a mobile chip like the A18 Pro would resemble the performance of a MacBook Air M2, which can slow down when tasks demand heavy GPU usage on 4K displays. For typical Full HD setups, performance would be stronger, but 4K workloads could reveal limits.
If real, a Mac Neo would fill a gap between the Mac Mini and the more expensive MacBook family, offering a compact form factor at a lower price. It could cannibalize some Mac Mini demand, but Apple would gain a new entry point into the desktop market, especially for students and casual users.

While enticing as a concept, the Mac Neo presents design and functionality questions that Apple would need to answer. The Mac Neo could offer an appealing, budget-friendly path into the Mac ecosystem, provided Apple can balance price, performance, and external-display usage.
